Text Box: The Court will post announcements concerning FAQ’s (frequently asked questions); Court access and hearing format modifications; and other information as warranted. Should the Court decide to implement alternative court appearance, hearing process changes, or other changes in Court methodology, an announcement will not only be posted here, but the process will be adopted by judgment entry, and notification will be provided to members of the Ashland County Bar Association and other attorneys known to be impacted by the change in policy or practice.

EFFECTIVE JUNE 2, 2021, FACE MASKS WILL BE OPTIONAL FOR ALL LIVE, IN-PERSON COURT PROCEEDINGS.

For JURY TRIALS and GRAND JURY, temperature screening will be maintained at least through June, 2021 or until the Court receives additional guidance from the Supreme Court of Ohio. The Supreme Court of Ohio has been extremely cautious and methodical in its return to normal post-COVID operations. Because jurors are conscripted and do not attend jury trials on a completely voluntary basis, the Court must still consider the needs and concerns of those who might not yet be ready to dispense with all COVID safeguards. So as to not exclude these individuals from potential jury service, the Court will continue to take some relaxed precautions through June, 2021.
The Court WILL be making greater use of ZOOM video conferencing for bench trials and Judge/Magistrate motion hearings than in pre-COVID times, even with a return to normal operations. Remote hearings have proven to be efficient and cost effective for the litigants and attorneys appearing in court, and provide greater access to the courts for litigants. For more information as to the procedures for conducting an evidentiary hearing by video, see Form 19.00.
